Finished your book? Amazing. Now it’s time to make sure readers find it — and fall in love with it.
Marketing might feel like the least romantic part of being a romance author, but here’s the truth:
Your book deserves to be read.
And marketing is just the way you introduce it to the world.
The good news? You don’t need a 10K budget, a massive following, or an MBA. What you do need is a plan — and a little heart. Here’s how to market your book without losing your mind (or your voice).
1. 🎯 Know Who You’re Writing For
Before you do anything else, get clear on your ideal reader. Are they spicy booktok queens? Cozy romance lovers? Dark romance addicts? Knowing who you’re talking to will help you choose the right platforms, visuals, hashtags, and vibe.
Pro tip: Make a “Reader Moodboard.” What are they reading? What tropes do they love? What songs are on their playlist? Market to them — not everyone.
2. 📸 Build a Social Presence (Your Way)
You don’t need to be everywhere. Pick 1–2 platforms where your readers already hang out (usually TikTok and Instagram for romance), and focus on showing up consistently. Share:
Tropes in your book
- Aesthetic moodboards
- Teaser lines or spicy snippets
- Behind-the-scenes writing moments
- Character “interviews” or playlists
- Memes. Always memes.
- And don’t be afraid to be you. Readers don’t just follow books — they follow authors.
3. 📬 Build Your Email List Early
Social media is great — but your email list is gold. Start building it now, even if it’s tiny. Offer a reader magnet (like a bonus scene, character art, or spicy short story) and send occasional updates, behind-the-scenes peeks, or early access to preorders.
You control your email list. You don’t control the algorithm. 😉
4. 🛍️ Treat Your Book Launch Like an Event
Your book birthday is a big deal — hype it like one! Leading up to launch, share:
A cover reveal
- Countdown posts
- ARC reader quotes or blurbs
- Preorder links & incentives
- A launch day “Buy Now” CTA with reviews to follow
- Create a launch week checklist and promote for at least 7–14 days after your release. Visibility doesn’t end on day one!
5. 💬 Use Reviews and Reader Reactions
Once reviews start coming in (even if it’s just your ARC team), share them. Social proof builds trust. Screenshots, quotes, TikTok reacts, and “What Readers Are Saying” graphics all help nudge new readers toward clicking “buy.”
6. 🤝 Connect with Other Authors
Shoutouts, newsletter swaps, trope rec posts, and shared promotions are powerful. The romance writing community is huge —and incredibly supportive. Follow, comment, and collaborate genuinely.
7. 📚 Keep Showing Up (Even After the Hype Dies Down)
Your book isn’t old news after launch week. Keep marketing it long after release by:
Scheduling monthly promo posts
- Running sales or Kindle countdown deals
- Creating character spotlights or “if you liked X, read this” posts
- Pinning your buy links
- Creating a link-in-bio or mini landing page
- ❤️ TL;DR: You’re Not Selling — You’re Sharing What You Created With Love
Marketing doesn’t have to feel slimy. You wrote something beautiful, bold, and bingeable. Now give it the chance to find its people.
